Creative Concepts by Native Garden Nursery

A rockery garden can be a small corner or a larger area which could represent a dried riverbed, an apline scree area, an avalance of rocks strewn down from a hillside or a rocky outcrop. We have shown a dried riverbed theme with a pebbled path meandering through the plantings.
Rockeries generally use plants that prefer free-draining soils and an open, sunny situation. The inclusion of tree ferns in the drawing would suit gardens where the rockery is edging onto an area of existing trees to provide some shade and moisture.
Rockeries are generally sparsley planted with some dense groups of rounded shrubs to mimock the rocks if desired. Alpine or rocky/coastal type plants can be nestled into cracks of rocks. Ground-covers planted next to rocks will creep over them, blending the ground, rocks and plants together.
